Oz-Dev: Prime Minister’s Pacific Australia Awards

Scholarships have featured in Australia’s overseas aid program for decades. Australia prides itself on providing developing countries with access to its higher education system and has awarded study opportunities in Australia since the days of the early Colombo Plan in the 1950s. AusAID scholarship and award programs play a significant role in Australia’s relationships in the Pacific region and with partner governments. AusAID’s Australian Development Scholarships (ADS) and Australian Leadership Award Scholarships (ALAS) are a capacity building tool aimed at delivering sustained social and economic growth in line with Australia’s national interests in target countries.Award programs achieve two mutually beneficial objectives:

(a) Achieving country and regional program development outcomes through strengthened individual and institutional skills and knowledge, and by supporting leadership; and
