Oz-Dev: Vanuatu Transport Sector Program Phase 1

The VTSSP Phase 1 is proposed to be the first phase of a long term partnership (10-15 years) between the GoV and the GoA in the transport sector. VTSSP Phase 1 will commence by supporting the Ministry of Infrastructure and Public Utilities (MIPU) and the Public Works Department (PWD) to improve rehabilitation and maintenance of road transport infrastructure, with a focus on agreed works in the provinces of Ambae, Tanna and Malekula. The Governance for Growth (GfG) Management Committee is the lead GoV-GoA coordination body and will provide overall strategic direction to the VTSSP. The VTSSP Phase 1 will focus on strengthening and using local private sector capacity to undertake works, using small and medium scale contracting and labour based appropriate technology methods, managed through the PWD, using GoV processes as much as is practicable. Phase 2 of the VTSSP will be designed during Phase 1 and will build on Phase 1 progress and move towards providing more sector based programmatic support in transport.
